Gombe National Park
Inaccessible by car, including an idyllic island beach, soft white bay, the blue water of the Tanganjika lake, wild jungle, veiled mountain peaks of 2000m height: this is probably the best explanation of the Gombe National Park, which has a surface area of 52 km² and is therefore the smallest National Park of Tanzania. The Park is located north of Kigoma, not far from the border of Burundi. The Gombe NP offers refugee to a part of the last wild chimpanzees in Africa. Around 800 of these animals live now here, thanks to a research project. The search for Gombe chimpanzees is a magical experience. Trackers espy their nests of the past night and suddenly, one finds himself in between the chimps – crouched down in groups, the animals clean the glossy skin of each other. Others argue loudly, while others climb from tree to tree without any difficulties. Further, there is the possibility of bathing in the crystal clear, cleanest, second deepest and longest fresh water lake in which roundabout 1000 fish species live.
